Last Saturday 13 September, 45,000 people marched in Madrid to protest about Toro de la Vega, this brutal killing of a magnificent black bull in the name of entertainment. Shows Spanish people are sick of animal cruelty, especially in fiestas. Will Spain ever move out of the dark ages?

Update on Polar – on training and recycling
I’ve been asked how Polar is doing. What can I say! He’s now taller than Bracken, he’s extremely naughty – there isn’t a day goes by when he doesn’t get into mischief. He has his own recycling policy – all plastic bottles should be recycled, even full ones. (Jane of Pepis tells me that’s because he had empty plastic bottles to play with at the refuge). If he can get to the cardboard recycling bag, then the contents get distributed around the courtyard. Next come the shoes – he’s already got several pairs of his own but naturally he wants the ones which we still prefer to wear! Then come the socks! He was given a bag full of socks with holes in – but no, he has to delve in my walking boot bag and pinch my socks out of that!

Scooby exposes – more animal cruelty in Spain
Read the latest story from Scooby Medina.
As a footnote, a friend who has 4 Spanish rescued dogs, lived in Spain, very experienced with the situation, applied to adopt a black galga from Scooby. After her initial application being ignored and ignored, she wrote me to help with my contacts. Long and short of it is, a curt reply – we don’t home dogs to the UK. So, folks, help Scooby but don’t expect to adopt a dog from them!

Video with the President of SOS Galgos talking about galgueros and hunting. It kept pausing for me and I had to keep clicking further along the bar below the video, but you can read it all by doing that.

Galgo remembrance pin – buy now on ebay
Lovely galgo remembrance pin, raising funds for 112carlotagalgos. I bought one and wear it on my red polo shirt with a galgo logo and ‘I saved a life’ which I bought from Baasgalgo fundraiser and which I wear when I take Polar to dog obedience classes.

PACMA – successful court prosecutions for animal cruelty
Progress is slow in Europe when it comes to authorities taking action against perpetrators of animal cruelty. Here are two reports from PACMA about their success in achieving prosecution against maltreatment of animals in Spain. The articles are in Spanish but if you click on the dropdown menu in the top right-hand corner, you can select English. Thank you Kate for sending them to me.

Save the Galgos
Hi folks, just to say I am away for a weekend with my daughter and won’t have Internet access. So I’ve scheduled a couple of stories for you to read in the meantime. Will be back with you with galgo news from 8th April. As Typepad has now ‘improved’ their system – what is it with these computer geeks? – if it works well, we must change it?!! So bear with me, if your comments don’t appear, it’s because I have to moderate them now and I can’t do it till I get back on a computer next week….progress, heh?!

Leishmania – where to purchase medication in the UK?
Have just received this request for help. Anyone in the UK able to help Karen.
I have adopted a dog from cyprus and she has been diagnosed with Leishmania. The vets here in England can get the medication for the injections she needs of Megulamine Antimoniate (glucantime) but it will take 4 to 6 weeks and costs £3500.
>
> I was just wondering if you are aware of a quicker way we can get the medication and if so what is the process and cost?
