Gesser is another perrera in Jerez, southern Spain. It is built for 70 dogs but there are 190 there, mostly they will be killed. Amongst the dogs were 35 galgos taken there by the hunters. Pro-Galgo reports on their German website that 80 dogs were saved by various associations both in Spain and abroad. This is a basic translation.

Seville, galgos in terrible conditions – please help
Please can any associations help this brave lady? Here’s the appeal I received.
CAN YOU HELP SAVE THESE GALGOS, PLEASE?
These galgos are in a shanty town in Sevilla. For two years Inmaculada has been rehoming them little by little. She doesn’t have photos of them all as the people become very angry and won’t allow her in the place. There were eight females, seven males and six mixed breed.

Publicity for Podencos – help and forever homes wanted
For many years Rick and Lesley Beauchamp in the UK have been helping rehomed podencos rescued by SARA Lanzarote; virtually the only chance of a loving forever home is on mainland Europe. Thanks to Ed of Podencoworld for forwarding this clip of a BBC interview with Lesley. Please contact Ed or SARA Lanzarote if you are interested in helping these fabulous hounds.

Murcia perrera – Baas Galgo save 6 galgos from death row
Good news for 6 galgos which were on death row in the municipal perrera in Murcia. Baas Galgo to the rescue. Here’s a link to the story in Spanish; English translation below.
‘Galgos are key to the success of a hunt, but many of them are killed or abandoned by their owners when hunting season ends. Rescue Associations claim that animals have become a disposable tool. Many were hung from a tree after a hunt, others are thrown into a well or wounded by a shot as punishment if the hunt has not been successful, and only the best are left in the field.

Cruel Spain – galgos tied up in caves to starve to death – shame on Spain
The entrance to Hell. From A.P.A.P. Albacete Noah’s Ark we want to present a new case of animal abuse, which occurred in the town of Chinchilla de Montearagón. Again, the galgo, noble animal, an innocent victim of the cruelty and ruthlessness of some heartless owners.
Last week members of the Protective went to check the call of some youths who made a grisly discovery, several bodies of dogs in a cave near the village.
Fearing the worst we viewed some of the caves in the area and found in several of them the same sad scenario, dogs in various stages of decomposition, bound with ropes to rocks inside the caves where they had been left to die slowly of starvation. .. and even whole litters thrown into small pits from which they could not leave.

Seville, City of Shame, behind the glitter – who’s starving in the winter sun
I wept when I received this story. 4 galgos, abandoned, starving and barely able to stand. A woman is leaving food and water but she can’t take them in, please can anyone help. Here’s the appeal I received (Google translation!)
A few days ago a woman called me crying, 4 dogs skeletal and more dead than alive. I went to see and do photos, and what I found on arrival was eerie. They are two males and two females. Of the males, one is very sweet and young, have white teeth, and let me pet him about looking for love. not too thin, and hits all the food (normal if starved), but it’s a terrific galgo and loves petting.
