And yet you ignore the struggles for life which go on along your streets, in the countryside, stories which the world reads, pictures it sees on the Internet. You leave it to the volunteers who care, who pick up the detritus discarded by your hunters, ignored by those who close their eyes and walk by.   • Baas Galgo to court today against hunter who hung 3 galgos

    Keep fingers and everything crossed today, 13th April 2011, as Baas Galgo have their first Court appointment against the man who hung his 3 galgos. Pray that the court officials, judge etc, are not hunters!

    Also, look at these fabulous photos of Nicolas and Kafir. Nicolas was rescued from near death last Christmas Eve, Kafir had a wire round his leg, he had tried to chew his leg off! Both are with Cristina de Luna in Madrid. Amazing wonderful photos. I’d just say here that anyone who thinks a 3-legged galgo can’t run, eat your words!

  • Seville, City of Shame, behind the glitter – who’s starving in the winter sun

    Abandoned galgos 2 19 01 2011 250 I wept when I received this story. 4 galgos,abandoned, starving and barely able to stand. A woman is leaving food and water but she can’t take them in, please can anyone help. Here’s the appeal I received (Google translation!)

    A few days ago a woman called me crying, 4 dogs skeletal and more dead than alive. I went to see and do photos, and what I found on arrival was eerie. They are two males and two females. Of the males, one is very sweet and young, have white teeth, and let me pet him about looking for love. not too thin, and hits all the food (normal if starved), but it’s a terrific galgo and loves petting.

  • Podencos in Ibiza – remember this story?

    Podencos 1 250 Do you remember this story from a couple of years ago? Time and again I have tried to contact the Bright Eyes people to find out the result of the court case, with no success atall. Now the story has been found on GN by someone who worked in Ibiza when this was happening. Here’s what she says.

    ‘I remember this man very well. I was involved with animal rescue in Ibiza from 1997 – 2004. He used to have literally hundreds of podenco ibizencos living, breeding and dying all around his house and the surrounding forest. This man is certainly anything but mentally sick. In fact he offered to sell me two pups who were 4 weeks old at the time, taking them from the mother; disgrace and I told him so.

This is the story of Nicolas, rescued from pain and death by Rachel and Silvia on Christmas Eve, supported by Baas Galgo.     We request your assistance because, whilst looking for land to be able to finally build a refuge supported by several rescuer associations, we found a awful case. Some 27 dogs in a regrettable state, there are several deaths from malnutrition among the pups, and there are animals with mange, wounds, you cannot imagine….

    We do not have a refuge, and that’s why we cannot assume this case alone. We took out 2 pups, one of them died because of weakness.

  • Cielo, galga left for dead on the streets of Cordoba, rescued by La Guarida

    Cielo2 body Cobie 08 2010 250 It’s now nearing the end of August, soon the Spanish hunting season begins. And there are still galgos suffering and dying, abandoned at the end of the last hunting season.

    Here is the story of one of them. It has taken me 2 days to be able to post this story, I was so sickened at the suffering of Cielo and felt for the emotional and physical draining which the volunteers who rescued her must have suffered too.
