Podencos in Ibiza – remember this story?

Podencos 1 250 Do you remember this story from a couple of years ago? Time and again I have tried to contact the Bright Eyes people to find out the result of the court case, with no success atall. Now the story has been found on GN by someone who worked in Ibiza when this was happening. Here’s what she says.

‘I remember this man very well. I was involved with animal rescue in Ibiza from 1997 – 2004. He used to have literally hundreds of podenco ibizencos living, breeding and dying all around his house and the surrounding forest. This man is certainly anything but mentally sick. In fact he offered to sell me two pups who were 4 weeks old at the time, taking them from the mother; disgrace and I told him so.

Anyway my main point is this, the Ibizencan Government laid down so much poison one winter to rid themselves of the “pest” problem – they murdered more than 90% of the dogs in ed cubells. They died slow and horrible deaths and I was witness to this happening. Spanish TV also came out to film this man and all his dogs approximately 2 yrs before the poisoning in 1998.’

So this information makes it even more sickening – the rescue associations work tirelessly to help the abandoned animals, and this is the government’s answer………not wholesale spaying and neutering, that would be too costly?!

Thanks, Nic, for telling us more. What happened about the court case?

Thursday, Novemember 10, I save an old man driving down the road toward Ibiza town with a pile of dead dogs piled high like sacks of cement in his open trailer and one or two poor souls still alive on top. I was horrified and I still am.

Jeeez, that is horrendous. I’m out of touch with what goes on in Ibiza ans the Bright Eyes lady doesn’t live there now. Can you email me band@bbrennan.eu with any information about the problems on Ibiza, especially for the podencos. Did you get a photo or three of this trailer…not surprised the picture is still in your mind.
