  • Hunting with galgos in Spain – will it ever end?

Scooby China 250 10 2012From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid. This poor little galga named China was brought to the Scooby residencia by a galguero because she is obviously very sick. Surely she has leishmaniosis, very much hairloss over her whole body, long nails on her feet which makes walking very painful for her, her eartips completely bare, her back and tail almost bare and a look in her eyes which makes you want to cry for feeling so sorry for her.

The galguero injected her with all kinds of stuff and gave her tablets, God may know which ones, but of course, that did no good to her so he wanted to dispose her.

  • Galgos in training – Save the Galgo

Injured pup 170The plight of the galgos has, it seems to me, been worse this year than ever before, and still, all through this summer, volunteers are rescuing starving and injured galgos. A volunteer says, ‘in a month and a half the hunting season with galgos starts again and already the galgueros are training their dogs like crazy to get condition on them, to get stronger muscles, more speed, only to leave them behind later in the fields or perreras if they don´t hunt as they want.

Please, adopt a galgo because there are still many left everywhere from the last season, all in need of a loving family and a forever home! For the end of the hunting with galgos in Spain!!

  • Disposable galga, maltreated by her galguero….

Catalina 2 190 7 2012Look at this absolutely stunning galga. Here’s her story. Literal translation, I’m afraid, as it’s late and I’m out all day tomorrow with my 5 hounds, at a fun dog show.

‘Hi I’m a dog of about seven months that my owner (Hunter)no longer need, due to my right leg breakage. I am very young but already I have fractured one of my legs, he forced me to run run and run and because of the effort that I broke the tendons…
also I have shot wounds on the body, that did it to scare me and so run more rapid…
now I have it a little himchada and cojeo when I get tired much
but I still enjoying running like a Madwoman as good gauge that I am.

  • Murcia – 70 galgos need rescuing from a Spanish gypsy – send a letter to the Hunting Federation

70 galgos gypsy camp 250 21 1 201222 January 2012 – as I write a rescue is being carried out in Murcia. Up to 70 galgos in a gypsy camp. The gitano (Spanish gypsy) with these dogs was denounced (see my book to explain a denuncia) and the authorities said the dogs would all be put down unless they were rescued. These dogs are in poor condition, some chained to walls….the gypsies are very hard on the galgos. Several people belonging to rescue associations and refuges are involved in this operation.

  • Spanish Legal Expert needed – law on galgos running free

Cordoba galga mama 250 1 26 07This is a question for the legal experts to answer. A couple in Palencia found two starving galgos in a ditch a couple of years ago. They adopted them and walk them in the fields in a morning, letting them run free. As they are so well fed, they don’t tend to catch anything!

The couple have now been told – by a man with two (unleashed) hunting dogs – that they are breaking the law by having the galgos run free in the campo, that they spoil the hunting. If he sees them running free again, he will file a report with the Guardia Civil.

  • Galgos in danger, Cordoba perrera and Badajoz … the holocaust continues

Cordoba perrera 1 250 17 1 2012If a galgo won’t hunt, then the galguero gets rid of it. Some just dump them anywyhere, others will pass the dog onto another hunter…it doesn’t want to hunt, so it gets passed on to another hunter…..this is what has happened to one young galgo. This isn’t a photo of her, we don’t have one yet, just the appeal, can anyone squeeze her in somewhere to stop her ending up abandoned or in Badajoz perrera. garrapateracoherente@hotmail.com

And 7 galgos in Cordoba perrera, on death row – male and female, from 1-3 years old.

  • Malaga perrera – galgos on death row – starving – anyone room for them?

Malaga perrera El Paraiso 2 250 1 2012This is the harsh reality for dogs dumped in the municipal and private perreras – killing stations. It’s any dog which suffers like this, not just the galgos. But for the galgos, it’s simply that hunting is drawing to a close and the galgueros are dumping their dogs. These dogs are/were in the perrera El Paraiso at Malaga (some have already been killed). Vera describes.

  • Toledo, hell for galgos – left injured in an irrigation channel – Baas Galgo again

Paquito 3 channel 2 190 1 2012Toledo, another Spanish hell for galgos. We’ve already had galgos – yes, there was more than one – in a deep gorge from which they could not escape, other than starvation and death. Now we have one in a drainage channel, with a broken leg. Some of you might say ‘well the galgos could have run into the gorge, and the drainage channel’. Those involved in their rescue have their doubts. And they are on the ground, to assess.

Here’s yet another galgo in Toledo who was left, injured, where starvation and a painful death were his only options – if he hadn’t been spotted by someone sympathetic to animals.

    Baas Galgo tell his story.

  • Seville galgos, Cuenca galgos, Albacete galgo – abandoned by galgueros Anyone help?

Seville galgos 1 31 03 2011 250 Please can anyone squeeze in these two temporarily, the galguero is going to get rid of them….he doesn’t say how. Puri says ‘I have no room, he is giving me until Monday to do something. I have offered a refuge that can take care of them in terms of veterinary and other expenses but do not have room, so I need shelter for two.’
