A friend of our veterinarian Montse de Linares, knowledgeable of the work we do in Galgos112, has contacted us because not the police of a town of Jaén (no matter which, since It’s the usual tonic) and no one listened to him to pick up this poor being, with one leg completely destroyed and another broken as well. Berto as we’ve called him was lying near a place where people sometimes pass by on bikes and that was his luck…
Because galgos are not aggressive dogs, unscrupulous people use them as bait for dog fighting. This galguita found a few days ago, is young, full of wounds and has a broken tail.
There currently seems to be some uncertainty as to who actually has the galga,
This beautiful galga is Reka. You will see her terrible injuries below. She was found a week ago, the injuries were not fresh, and smelled, it was not known how long she had been suffering like this. She was exhausted, hungry and ready to give up when found.
Ana from Gran Familia tells the story. ‘She had to be anaesthetised in order to clean up and sew these ugly wounds, the leg muscle has been joined from behind but possibly she will be left with a slight limp. She had some internal bleeding and a torn vulva, which would intimate she was pregnant. It is difficult to imagine how these injuries happened but Reka has had to stay in the vet clinic to have her wounds treated.
This is beautiful Greta, a galga rescued from the killing station, scarred in both body and mind. 112carlotagalgos has healed her and now she is ready for a forever family to continue her care, and with whom she can share her life. Here’s her story, contact Charl if you can offer her forever. UPDATE – Greta has now found her forever home in the UK and will travel there in January.
On the same page, you can also read about the incredible Clara and how she nurtures and helps traumatised galgas like Greta.
Message just in from Seville.
Good afternoon, We need help to catch a galga in Umbrete, Seville. The galga was abandoned about two months ago, but in recent weeks someone has been beaten or has run over and God knows. Vanessa Luque has sent this appeal for homes for mother and daughter galgas which are currently in a refuge in Madrid, are becoming very introverted and withdrawn. Here’s what she says.
‘I usually publicise our dogs through my website and my Facebook profile … but there are now so many dogs in the kennels and it is causing problems. So I am appealing for these two galgas, an urgent rehoming case.
Spain, how proud and arrogant are your Royal House, your politicians! You turn your eyes away from the facts of life in your country. You acclaim your historic churches, cities, olympic villages. And yet you ignore the struggles for life which go on along your streets, in the countryside, stories which the world reads, pictures it sees on the Internet. You leave it to the volunteers who care, who pick up the detritus discarded by your hunters, ignored by those who close their eyes and walk by. Here is one such case, Loli tells it in her own words….
‘Abandoned galgos and puppies
Please can anyone squeeze in these two temporarily, the galguero is going to get rid of them….he doesn’t say how. Puri says ‘I have no room, he is giving me until Monday to do something. I have offered a refuge that can take care of them in terms of veterinary and other expenses but do not have room, so I need shelter for two.’
