  • Risa, saved from Jerez killing station, now looking for her forever home

Cleo Risa crop 2 2011 011 210 This beautiful galga is Risa, about 14 months old, taken to the Jerez killing station by her galguero in December 2010, to be euthanaised along with dozens of other dogs. She was rescued on Christmas Eve with 3 other galgos, one just 5 months old, by 112carlotagalgos. She is now in foster at my home in Western France, looking for her forever home.

She has her EU passport, is microchipped, vaccinated, sterilized, negative for Mediterranean diseases, and the results are awaited for her rabies antibodies blood test for possible adoption in Britain – although she is clear for adoption elsewhere in Europe now.

  • Podenca Angela – sadly did not survive.

Sad news today – little podenca puppy Angela, rescued from the Jerez perrera, succumbed to parvo disease earlier in the week and died this morning. At least for the last month of her life, she knew the feel of caring hands, had regular meals, was loved and received the best of vet care. Thank you everyone for giving her a chance.

White ones, which were once regarded as THE most important galgo to the Spanish aristocracy.

  • Podencos need help too – can you help?

Blind podenco 200 Jerez perrera Maribel Silvia 12 2010This is another sad casualty of hunting in Spain; this blind podenco was dumped in the Jerez perrera in December. It’s bad enough for all the dogs who can see, imagine not being able to see in that environment too. Luckily Silvia of Galgo Connection Spain in Valencia has taken him to give him a chance of a comfortable future life.

Update 05 01 2011 – Alphonso sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge today. At least in his last few days he knew the sound of kind voices and felt the gentle caress of caring hands.

And there is news in today about an injured podenco which has been taken to the vet by Galgos del Sol.
