Galga Gaby, abandoned in Murcia, fostered in France, adopted in the UK
Here’s something to make you chuckle, amidst so many horror stories. I am fostering a galga rescued by Tina Solera of Los Infiernos Refuge in Murcia (by the way, click on the ‘hound’ logo on the right to donate desperately needed dog food to her) who is en route to her forever home in the UK. The galga is a terrible thief! What a surprise! But as she is larger than my Carmela and Sahara, she can reach more things.

Help feed the rescued galgos and podencos in Spain
Betty’s Original are purveyors of natural dog food which is wheat, gluten and dairy free and is particularly good for rescue dogs, who have very often been abandoned and had to scavenge for whatever they can find to stay alive.
I’m pleased to say they have kindly offered a special reduced price deal to readers of Galgo News whereby if you order dog food through them, you can nominate it to be delivered to either Tina Solera, Perros del Sol at Los Infiernos Refuge, who has rescued dozens of abandoned galgos during the course of the last 12 months, or Charl del Rio, who has three or four dogs in kennels until they are adopted.
All you need to do is click on this link to the Betty’s Original site and you will see the two rescue centres you can help.
Click on either of the two boxes, Perros del Sol for Tina or 112 Carlota Galgos for Charl. Then click on ‘My Account’ and create an account.
It is as easy as that! Betty’s will then contact your nominated person and find out what food they desperately need at that particular point in time. You can pay either by credit card or Paypal. Any problems, email Betty’s Original direct.

Galga Phoebe, saved from drowning, looking for foster or forever home
Galgos are still being abandoned, even though it is now the Spanish hunting season. This bitch was rescued by an English couple, exhausted and in danger of drowning in a canal. She was literally on her last breath when they dragged her out. They think she was in the canal because farmers were shooting at her the day before. She was exhausted. Tina says, ‘The couple still have her in their home but need a new place for her. They wont take her in the refuge because she is out of the border and to be honest after all she has been through its better she doesnt come in anyway..’. She is about 1 year old, her body already scarred, as you can see in the photo.
If you can help with foster or forever home, please contact Tina, who will also be very grateful for donations towards her microchip, vaccinations, castration.

Gandalf desperately needs his forever home – please help this galgo
The volunteers involved in galgo and podenco rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work with dedication and commitment towards the ultimate solution for these maltreated and abused dogs. But sometimes circumstances change, which means the dog has to move on. Everyone hopes he/she will not be affected by this, and it is amazing how resilient the dogs are.
Here is one boy who, through no fault of his own, now has to leave his foster home and return to Los Infiernos refuge, home to over 200 dogs. Tina Solera is desperately seeking another foster or forever home for him, so he doesn’t have to cope with the refuge again. If you can help, please get in touch with Tina.

Two podencas desperately needing forever homes
This is Freya, a podenca at Los Infiernos refuge, Murcia, where Tina is a volunteer. Tina explains ‘She is a podenco suffering terribly. She has been chewing at her own leg and has broken through the skin. She doesn’t want to eat and had lost a lot of weight but volunteers have been hand feeding her wet food so that is helping. I’ve had her moved to a more comfortable place in the refuge and she is improving but would like to see her leave asap. She is approx 10mths, great with people but nervous with other dogs until she gets to know them!’
Please contact Tina direct.
And don’t forget sweet Mary, currently in a kennels and desperate for her forever home. Contact Charl direct.

Romeo, saved in April, in danger from a galguero, looking for his forever home.
Help, please, anyone in the Torre Pacheco, Murcia, area or anywhere. Tina has been seeking a forever home for handsome galgo Romeo since she rescued him in April. Today she was told that tomorrow he will be given to a hunter!! You can imagine her distress! Common with a lot of the volunteers in the refuges…..saving the galgos only for them to be stolen back for the hunters! Here’s her appeal
‘I currently have Romeo in my garden. If I didnt take him today then tomorrow he was leaving with a hunter… i couldnt let that happen. OH MY GOD, husband is going to kill me. So far he is great with Guapo and has been good as gold, out of the refuge he is calmer. he has no microchip, no vaccines and is castrated.
Please help me, I cant keep him but if he stays in the refuge tomorrow he will be with a galguero.’
UPDATE Silvia in Valencia rushed to the rescue, Romeo is now on his way to her. If you can adopt this stunning galgo, please contact her.

Update on galgo Ruso, victim of a hit & run accident in Murcia
Update on Ruso, the rough-haired galgo taken to Los Infiernos refuge in Murcia, where Tina is a volunteer. Because the refuge is in difficulties at the moment, we have been working behind the scenes at Galgo News and with GRIN in the US and Silvia in Valencia. Ruso travelled to Valencia where he has been seen by Silvia’s vet and x-rays taken of his injuries. He has a broken hip, which will require an operation.
Silvia will be sending more news when it is available. Bless this poor boy, he has been in such pain, but now he will get the best of care. Tina has used donations so far to cover his transport and towards the vet fees.
