EVERY VOICE COUNTS IN THE BATTLE TO FIGHT EVIL

SUGGESTED LETTER
This proposal by the Irish Greyhound Board is simply unacceptable. I am sure they must have been amazed at the backlash of protest about this. As well as demonstrations in Ireland, Irish embassies in London and America, thousands of caring people across the world have signed a petition to stop racing dogs going to China, as China has virtually no animal welfare – many dogs are skinned alive and used for their meat and fur.

If this proposal goes ahead, there will be a boycott of Ireland from many people across the world. Bearing in mind Ireland is already in financial trouble, this will create an even bigger problem as less money will come into Ireland. Tourism and Irish goods will be greatly affected. This is already happening in the case of the Spanish greyhounds who suffer horrendously at the hands of the Spanish hunters.

This is what an Australian greyhound trainer wrote on my website, in response to the campaign I have been helping to run.

‘Darrell Leathen explains. ‘I am an Australian greyhound trainer and am appalled at Irish g/racing for even contemplating exporting dogs to China, they kill and consume over 2 million cats/dogs per annum… they equate eating dog to an American eating a hotdog, someone ought to inform them they are made from lips and cheeks.. this cannot be allowed to happen and I will proposition greyhound racing Victoria to speak with greyhound racing Ireland to stop this abhorent exercise…we do not eat our mates/ BAN THIS PRACTICE’.

This is just one example of the strength of feeling against the Irish Greyhound Board and their proposal.

Please, please do everything you can to halt this sickening proposal. These dogs are calm, affectionate, sensitive creatures. They feel the slightest pain. Their suffering at the end of their racing lives is already legion. Please do not allow these IGB – who treat greyhounds simply as a money-making machine – to continue with their proposal.

Yours hopefully
