DAVID’S JUMPING OUT OF AN AEROPLANE! WHY?
To raise funds for Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville.
When? TUESDAY, 23rd JULY 2013
Where? LA ROCHELLE, FRANCE
He needs to raise 6,000 euros.
It will cost 5,000 euros to fence an area of land where the refuge can relocate to the top of the hill above the house and kennels, which have been engulfed in mud slides over winter. The house is now declared unsafe to live in.
It will cost 1,000 euros to buy a new electricity generator – their last one died and they are struggling. They can’t use power tools and the refuge does not have sufficient electricity for the day to day running of the refuge. They have a small generator which powers some of the lights at night. At the moment, the nights are light – what will happen in winter with short days and long dark nights?
The jump will be over La Rochelle and the Ile de Re on Tuesday, 23rd July 2013
David is hoping everyone will sponsor him – any amount will help.

There but for the grace of God…
Like many of us, Jane and Alan Brian left the UK in 2005 in search of a better life abroad. They chose the sunshine of southern Spain where they planned to open a small caravan park.
Unfortunately they fell victim to an unscrupulous English estate agent and his Spanish counterpart. They purchased a plot of land at Pedrera, south of Seville. The plot of land was along a dried-up river valley and permission to build was refused time and again.
So what to do now?
Walking over their olive grove into another olive grove on their land they came across a sight they ‘would not wish on our worst enemy’. A large white fluffy dog was hanging from an olive tree! The sight has been imprinted in their memories ever since.
Returning home they decided they must do something so this did not have to happen to another dog. ‘We have the land, let’s take in these unwanted dogs.
Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville was born…
A house was constructed, kennels built, some land fenced off. Dogs were abandoned at their gates, thrown over the fence – puppies in boxes, young dogs, old dogs, many of the dogs were galgos and podencos, dumped by the local hunters at the end of the hunting season.
Since the refuge opened, Jane and Alan have helped hundreds of dogs, spent their life savings on caring for them – sick, injured, vaccinations, castrations, rehomings…the list is endless. Appealing for donations, volunteers to help care for the dogs. They never have a day off.
In the past year, they have had more than their fair share of bad luck. First of all a parvo outbreak, a canine killer disease. Then someone threw poisoned meat into the kennels and several dogs became ill, some died. Severe rain in September 2012 caused the first mud slide, straight through the kennels. A second one hit them in November 2012. Alan became ill at the beginning of 2013. Then their car died, their electricity generator packed up. In May 2013 Jane was suffering horrendous pain and admitted to hospital.
The last straw is the loss of their home. The house is now subsiding and they have been warned to move out as it is dangerous!
