Thank you to Europet who brought Polar to France. Ian and Sheila are really lovely caring people and their air conditioned transport is superb. Polar set off on Wednesday morning on his long journey from Pepis Refuge, Pedrera, across Spain. Here he is on a coffee break in Seville!
We met up with Europet at midday 7th June – I couldn’t believe how small he was! Such an adorable puppy. The Europet transport was full of rescue dogs from Portugal travelling to Germany to forever homes – Frankfurt and Berlin were their final destinations. We chatted about the terrible situation at Rogil for over 40 hunting dogs.
On returning home, Polar was introduced to the Brennan canine gang. At first he was a bit overwhelmed – all these BIG dogs! But soon after the first couple of sniffs, they all went their separate ways and Polar was left to explore the courtyard and house. Bracken was really pleased to have a new buddy to play with, although we had to keep reminding him to be gentle.
Vet visit tonight; he examined the xrays taken by the Pepis vet and then Polar’s legs. But pronounced that he did not wish to make a recommendation, except for us to see Dr Verin next Tuesday, after his return from holiday. He is the bone specialist in the large practice. So Tuesday afternoon we are off to see Dr Verin.
Poor Polar, he had to travel in the dog crate in the car…he cried and cried…I am sure he thought he was going on yet another journey to yet another new place. So many changes in 2 days for this very young dog.
Tonight he is absolutely sound asleep on one of the dog beds, next to Carmale.
Tomorrow is another exciting day in the life of this little galgo.
PS. The house is now devoid of rugs! Poos and wees on the tiles whilst we get him house-trained!
Jane and Alan at Pepis Refuge do an amazing job. They built kennels for 20 dogs but regularly have 50 -60 dogs because locals dump dogs over the fence, tie them to the gates, the situation for abandoned animals in the area is horrendous. Polar was left at their gate – 2 months old with a damaged hind leg…what were they supposed to do, leave him outside to starve?
They have been hit badly in the last year – dogs deliberately poisoned, two horrendous mud slides right through the kennels, subsidence, Alan ill, Jane in hospital. No one deserves this! They desperately need support – they rely totally on donations. Please either donate to feed dogs, to sterilize dogs, more importantly to adopt one of their fabulous dogs.
Susan Dawson has some fabulous items on sale at her Blue Greyhound shop, including fridge magnets, carrier bags…please visit the shop and buy, and help Pepis.
