On one of my many visits to rescue associations in Spain, I went with some volunteers to a well where there were sometimes galgos thrown down kuve – to die. It still goes on today!
Rescue of a greyhound thrown into an eight-meter well in Villanueva de la Serena. We share from ANIMA, Asociación Protectora de Animales
On Sunday, firefighters and local police in Villanueva de la Serena rescued a greyhound that had been thrown into a well about 8 meters deep, with no chance of getting out on its own, condemned to a slow death from starvation, hypothermia or drowning.
The alert was given by a neighbor after hearing his laments and the local police informed us immediately. Fortunately, he was rescued alive.
Ismael, whom we have called that way, received veterinary care. In addition to the injuries caused by the fall that led to wounds, contusions, neurological problems… he was in a state of shock. Now we take care of him and pamper him to alleviate his pain and immense sadness.
The neighbors say that the well was sealed and they had to drill a hole to throw him in.
The facts constitute a crime of animal abuse typified in article 340 bis of the Penal Code*, which
punishes with up to 24 months in prison and up to 4 years of disqualification for anyone who causes injuries or subjects an animal to conditions that put its life in danger. Abandoning a well also implies cruelty and deliberate cruelty.
Thank you very much, Don Benito Fire Park – Villanueva and Local Police Villanueva de la Serena
Whoever opens a well just to throw a greyhound alive not only commits a crime; it shows an absolute lack of humanity that cannot go unpunished.
