These 9 galgo puppies are 2 months old, their galga mother was abandoned in the campo near Seville; 5 female and 4 male. They are today on their way from Scooby to France, for adoption. See more pix on the ADL website and on Facebook.
Don’t forget that Scooby welcome volunteers to help in the shelter. Why not spend your holiday with Scooby in Spain.

Here’s the latest news from Galgos del Sol on the rescue of 74 galgos from a gypsy.
‘Seprona are taking action but every time they go to take the dogs, he has hidden them. Also if Seprona take them they are to be put down right away, I have heard, as there is no-where for them. So he is hiding them to prevent this but, at the same time, he doesn’t want to give us these ones as they are his trophy winners. I have said we can take 13, 3 of which go to L’Europe des Levriers, so am just waiting for the call.
Between all the associations involved, so far we have managed to save 51 of his dogs, which is great news.’
Thanks for the update, Tina, well done to everyone involved, it can’t have been easy – what you might call an emotional roller coaster!
Want to dress up your jacket and advertise your love of galgos? A change from the metal brooches are these attractive characters from 112carlotagalgos. And what better publicity than that Cesar Millan’s rehab director wears one. There’s also a pretty headband for the fashion conscious younger generation. Inexpensive and make a charming gift too. Take a look.
Podencos make fabulous pets too, especially if you prefer an active dog rather than a 40mph couch potato like a galgo! Podencos love long walks, playing, agility work…and snuggling up with you on a sofa! See the latest appeals on Podenco Post for podencos on death row in Valencia, Huesca, Malaga.
Nightmare scenario in Cuenca! I feel sick in my heart to read this, thinking of all the animals who have been saved, who may now be killed. Here’s the story.
The provincial perrera in Cuenca where they used to sacrifice every 3 months many, many dogs, has since January 2011 been a protectora where, since that time, not one dog was sacrificed. The president, Pilar, makes tremendous efforts to keep it this way but because they are just 1 year working as a shelter, they just don’t have enough associations who help them in finding adoption families for their dogs. This means they now have some 300 dogs instead of the 150 which is permitted. Of the 300 dogs there are at least 100 galgos.
Look at this beautiful face, those trusting eyes. This is Akaru, 8 yrs old. His hunter is going to take him to the perrera to be killed, because he’s got younger dogs now. What a betrayal. Akaru is one of 4 galgos in Madrid belonging to this hunter; he will take them all to the perrera to be killed, unless anyone can take them. Contact is vanessa.mascoteros@gmail.com
These are a few photos of a pack of dogs living together in an industrial estate in Seville, surrounded by private warehouses and services. The dogs have been here for more than 2 years. The leader of the group is only about 3 years old, he’s the big brindle. There are bitches with pups, and you’ll see from the last pix that they even live amongst the bodies of their friends who didn’t make it.
There have been denuncias to the police, and also appeals to Mairena Perrera (Protection Society of Mairena – Haha!) Still nothing has been done. This volunteer is asking any groups or associations to help her get them off the street as soon as possible. Rocio Sanchez Lobera nefertiri15_6@hotmail.com
The nights are cold and the days are long
and the shivering I feel is all day long.
I ache inside and cry in pain
for the hunger inside just reigns and reigns.
Life alone means no abuse,
something thats shows on my skin that’s loose.
I wear the trail of disgrace and pain,
and all along with nothing to gain.
Good news for a change. This is the Toleda galga, blind. Now named Grace and in foster care, she had a bad case of conjunctivitis. You can see how well it is clearing up, with treatment. Isn’t she an absolute beauty! If you want to apply to adopt her, contact one of the two rescue associations direct.
