Seville in the news again. This time Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert are holding a Manifestation on 12th May 2013 for everyone involved in the plight of the galgo, whether it be saving them, healing them, rehoming them, adopting them, starting at 11.30. Alan and Jane thought they were going to retire when they moved to Spain. Instead, like so many other animal loving Brits, they could not turn away from the desperate situation for abandoned dogs and cats. They now have about 70 dogs at Pepis, and the latest arrivals are these 4 puppies, three of them very newly born and another little girl left at their gate yesterday. This means tremendous amount of work around the clock with feeds – those of us with children remember it well!
This information was recently circulated on Facebook. It would be great if we could write to the Spanish MP Joan Josep Nuet and support his initiative. C.R.E.L., the French galgo and podenco rescue association in the Vosges region of France is organising the 2nd Manifestation in Strasbourg – date is 8th June 2013. Please consider travelling there and taking part. Last year there were over 1,000 of us marching with over 400 galgos and podencos. Here are the photos of the murdered galgos in Fuensalida. Remember, the hunters claim they aren’t cruel to their dogs, they don’t hang them! They may not hang so many now as they used to but Toledo is a particularly bad area for galgos…

‘Once again they have done it … and they will continue. Spain remains the country where sadistic hunters hang their galgos, with complete impunity. Galgueros, an extremely dangerous sect which decides which of these angels must die and how. Galgueros, the sect that not only exploits and abuses their galgos every day of their lives, but also revels in providing an agonizing death.
Once again it is in a town of Toledo, specifically in Fuensalida. Be ashamed, the Council of Fuensalida because you are as guilty as the ones who killed these dogs, you are guilty because you know it happens and you remain silent about it.
On Monday 15th April Mme Michelle Striffler, the French MEP actively involved in animal welfare issues at the European Union, together with 11 other co-signatories, submitted the Written Declaration 0006/2013 on putting an immediate stop to the torture and mistreatment of greyhounds in Europe. Just 200 hundred words that can have a great impact on the lives of many greyhounds. The Written Declaration will lapse on 15th July 2013.
