  • Puppy Sanvi badly injured – Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert need help with vet costs

    From Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert

    HELP FOR SANVI

She’s only a month and a half old… and she already knows pain. She was found on the side of a road, accompanied by her mother. A car crossed into its path and didn’t brake. She took the hit. Her mom, frightened, ran away without being able to do anything. Sanvi was lying alone, not understanding why everything hurt so much suddenly.

Thanks to Pet Health she was able to receive the first attention, but her condition is very delicate. We have a case of reserved prognosis. Her little body is stiff, with little sensitivity… and with an uncertain future.

  • Euthenasia – when should you make the decision?

    4 dogs terrasse 400 8 2016
In nearly 80 years of having dogs as pets – as well as horses and cats – apart from one occasion the time has come in their lives for us to make the ultimate decision. Apart from young dog Shandy who got on the scent of a bitch on heat, crossed a road, was hit and killed – all our animals have lived long and happy lives, much loved. Sometimes the ultimate decision has been taken out of our hands – our old border collie got dementia, Molly the greyhound got collapsed lungs at 14 years old, galga Carmela had a stroke and a brain haemorrage, Ben a lab x, galgos Sahara, Polar and Bracken developed inoperable cancers – see photo above – podenca Bebe died at 17 of old age).

  • Galgo Sandro – starving and abandoned in Huelva

    Sandro 1 4 2025 350
This is Sandro, a young galgo of approximately one year old, microchip removed and abandoned like trash. Rescued by La Tropa de Isra

Once again the negligence of the administration, of the police, once again an animal left to its free will.

Sandro had been wandering around the village for a few days, some girls of just eleven years have sought help for this boy and warned the police to pass the reader to him. She doesn’t have a microchip and the police told them that they wouldn’t take care of eleven-year-old girls!!!

  • The hardest part of having a dog

    RIP candle 350
This week I had a message from a lovely lady whose Mum adopted a little podenco X from me 13 years ago. After a wonderful life in a loving home he developed cancer and has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge. RIP Bobby.

R.M. Drake from the book ‘ Dog People’

“What’s the hardest part about having a dog?” they asked, their tone casual, like it was just another question.

The hardest part about loving a dog is knowing that one day, you’ll have to say goodbye. From the moment they come into your life, you know their time is limited, but you push that thought away, pretending the day will never come. You invest your heart in them, share the quiet mornings, the playful afternoons, the long walks that seem endless. They become more than just a part of your life—they become a part of you.

    Bev Louie and Zola 2 2025 350
    From Bev Farmer, Podenco Friends.

URGENT: Help Zola & Louie Find a New Home. Please share UK only.

We’re reaching out to all of you for help in finding a home for Zola and Louie, two beautiful Podenco Canarios who were adopted from us several years ago. Sadly, due to personal circumstances, their adopter can no longer keep them. It would be a dream come true for them to stay together, as they share a special bond, but they can be rehomed separately if needed. Louie would need to be in the company of a confident dog.

Here’s a little about these two amazing dogs:

They are both Podenco Canarios, originally rescued from Lanzarote.

7 Years old Approx 18 kilos and 65 cms to the shoulder. Both are great with other dogs. They currently live with a cat and are cat-friendly!

Located between South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

  • Spanish galgo brutalized by a Spanish hunter

    Galgos Espana brutalised galgo 1 400 9 2024
From Galgo Español España – the brutality of the Spanish galguero knows no bounds.

‘The harsh images are difficult to process, as they show raw realities/

Last Sunday our vet informed us that a greyhound had arrived, whose “owner” decided to euthasize because he had no money to cover the costs of his health condition. Yago, the poor dog was christened, had a jaw fracture (looks like a luxation of the temporomandibular joint), two pelvis fractures and an erosion in the humerus. In addition to that, he had wounds all over his body, one of them particularly serious in the area where his humerus has eroded, and the blow has caused a fairly large bladder bruise.
