  • 2 galgos down a 30ft well – Galgos del Sol to the rescue

Well_Galgos_GdS_250 1_2013We all know that most galgueros, especially in rural areas, will stop at nothing to dispose of their dogs, especially at the end of hunting. Galgos del Sol and Tina Solera have just taken in two young galgas, Tina tells the story.

‘We help alot of galgueros in this area…… I am so bloody disapointed with this, I can’t tell you. We have spoken with some galgueros and they believe for sure these two young galgas were stolen and the thieves did not want them to get back home. That is why galgueros build BUNKERS to prevent theft. Pistolero was stolen from a galguero here in our village two years ago… he was also found over 4 hrs away down in a deep well. These two young galgas were thrown in a well 30 meters deep and pulled out approx a couple of days ago by firemen.

  • Galgo Manolo in Valladolid – Scooby looks for a family for him

Scooby Manolo 2 200 1 2013Not all galgueros are complete bastards – like the one who deliberately left galga Gala with two broken legs out in the campo in Andalucia – to starve to death in great pain. Manolo was left with Scooby Residencia Valladolid. Here Cobie tells his tale.

MANOLO was left behind in the residencia because he was ‘no good for hunting’, said the galguero. I´m sure the galguero was no good for the dog because every galgo is a champion! Manolo is very lucky because now he can start a better and happy life with a caring family who will love him dearly because he is young, 2 and a half years old, very handsome, playful, super sweet and nice, has no fear and loves all other dogs and, even more, loves people. • Galga Gala – saved from a galguero murderer

Scooby Gala 1 200 1 2013Two pieces of news, which came up whilst I was stuck in the UK with hardly any computer contact.

Gala is a beautiful young galga found in a field in Andalucia with two deliberately badly broken legs – the left front and the left back – so she could not possibly get up and walk anywhere. Left by some bastard Spanish hunter to die a long and lingering and painful death. Luckily she was discovered and El Amparo took her to their vet where their vet operated on her to pin her legs back together again. Here are some before photos, and an incredible after video where she is walking with her legs splinted.

  • Stories in brief

Two badly injured galgos dumped in a perrera, and taken in by 112carlota galgos – Ebro, the more sick of the two – is on the road to recovery; both his broken front legs are now in pins and he is being nursed at the finca.
Jade – after a promising start, became seriously ill last week and the vet and Charl made the ultimate decision yesterday. RIP Jade.
As one door closes, another one opens for Carly, saved from being killed last week and arriving at the finca today.

Scooby Medina have taken in Gala, a black and white galga abandoned in Andalucia – both front legs so badly broken that the bones were sticking out.

You remember the story of Estrela, the galga maltreated by an alcoholic and his heroin addict wife – many of you good people donated to pay for special milk feed for Estrela to be able to feed her pups, and have medication for pneumonia, and she was eventually allowed to be taken by Teresa to her shelter. • The Galguero and his hounds – the story of of two galgos

Charl Clio 2 250 12 2012Another piece of emotive writing from Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos, this time about two new arrivals at the shelter in December.

‘The count down is done and the galgos are free, chasing the chase of the hare who runs free. Whoever said that this was a sport, for a sport is something that two should play, who asked the hare if he wanted to die today?

It’s here that these galgueros walk back empty handed, not all but some who have decided that their galgos just don’t make the grade. Some having traded out, thinking others have beter dogs. A galgo is flesh at the end of the day to these galgueros, not a living creature who has feelings, a concept which only they have as consolation to such cruelty.
