  • 112carlotagalgos is on the move

Dioni 250Charl and I have been good friends since 2007 when I founded Galgo News and Charl wrote publicity articles for Inland Trader and other journals, about the plight of the galgos. I’ve been pleased to support her along her journey to the stables where her first rescues were housed, to the finca in Alhaurin. We even rescued her horse Bailey together, saved from the cruel hands of a gitano. An incredible journey and a story of total devotion to the galgos, and some podencos.

The lease contract on the finca is now coming to an end and 112carlotagalgos has been lucky to be able to take on a long-term rental on a finca just down the lane from the current one.

  • Emergency appeal for donations for injured galga in Cadiz

Charl Cadiz galga 250Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos received an urgent call today from a young woman in a village near Cadiz where she found this young galga with an horrendous back wound. The girl is staying with the galga whilst Charl organises for her to go straight to her vet in Malaga. Here’s what Charl says.

‘The rescue train has begun. Confirmed a female but bleeding a lot. So we have been in touch with a contact in Cadiz who has offered to go quickly and pick her up and bring her. We will meet up and head to the clinic. This is a nasty nasty wound which doesn’t look too old but in 40 degree heat infection and fever can set in very quickly. The girl who caught her tells me shes plagued with flies naturally and cooked flesh is not an easy thing to heal in this heat. So a little blind on whats coming in but we will do our absolute best.

  • Galga Zoe, left for dead – now in her forever home

Charl Zoe 250Tribute to Zoe – by Charlotte del Rio

    Dear Sr.Galguero

I was sitting here with my thoughts, looking back over time.
Just a mere girl I was at your feet, the foot that booted me regularly. I wondered when the day would be, when I’d be free from the shame I felt.

I wandered by your side Sr.Galguero as a good galga should and on many occasion I know you thought you broke me. You almost did!

At just a year old I’d been born into hell, I knew nothing more than the life I led. Shamed, doomed, and hollow. Fear striking me at every move. How I lived on my nerves .. Oh how I did.

  • Galgo Ebro – beating the odds to heal a broken body and soul

These two videos are of Ebro, an example of the incredible will to live which lies within the galgos in Spain. Two broken front legs, put back together by vet Paco, nursed and cared for by the del Rio family. this is why we help the galgos, and why 112carlotagalgos needs your help – without your donations they couldn’t keep helping these galgos regain the will to live and become family pets. Charl’s thoughts as she prepared the night before husband Dioni set off to collect the galgos. Duke, to whom she refers, was saved by Portugal Dog Rescue and is with Charl for rehabilitation and learning that life can be good.

  • Portugal Dog Rescue – Duke now in rehab with 112carlot

Whilst I was in Spain for Xmas, I spent a few days at 112carlotagalgos and got to meet Duke, son of Estrela who I fostered for a short while before taking her to her forever home in the UK. He is now looking stunning but is still very nervous and retreats to his bed or the other end of the orchard whenever someone enters. Here you can see an update on how he is doing with Charl’s special touch.
