Regular readers will know Tina Solera is another volunteer working tirelessly for the abandoned dogs of Murcia, in Los Infiernos refuge. She has been picking up abandoned galgos regularly all summer, many of them now rehomed, but still there are a couple of galgos and a couple of podencos needing forever homes.
The latest incumbent is Russo. Here’s what Tina says about him.
‘Ruso arrived yesterday, he is 3yrs old. He has been hit by a car and can barely stand. You will see here when he stands that his back is twisted. he has seen a vet and for the moment I think they are going to see how he goes with rest, food and water, there is no money for much else at the moment. I’m desperate to get him to a foster home before the refuge owners decide the worst (to have him put to sleep). He is very loving, happy and just like my Guapo, but very underweight, weak and at the moment a bit twisted. He also has a massive growth on his elbow which I would like to get seen to, but again no money for vet fees.’
13 09 2010 Ruso has now been moved to Silvia in Valencia where he is being cared for and monitored by her vet. He will have an operation next week to repair his injured ventrodorsal but his repair and convalescence will be a long and costly job.

Hi, thanks so much Beryl, thats great. Just to correct the email address tho, its tinasolera@hotmail.co.uk
He is a lovely boy and it breaks my heart to see him in this state. As the others are running to me for a cuddle, he can´t get up altho desperately wants to take part. I have heard today he is a little better. x
Tina
The contents of my Paypal a/c on its way to you towards Ruso’s vets fees. Sorry that’s all there is available to transfer at the moment. I will try to get some more to you later but I have to transfer from my bank a/c then wait for the transfer to be completed into my Paypal a/c before I can send any more on to you.
Hope you can get him seen by a vet at least to assess his problem.

Hi Suzie
You are so kind, as you know, Tina struggles continually to raise funds to pay the vet fees for the galgos and podencos in her care. And its a very rocky road at the moment for the refuge, the council owe them money, and theres no more in the coffers and they are going to start putting dogs down! Heart-rending. How do these marvellous volunteers live with this trauma?

Hi
Thanks for mentioning that Galgo News is more than just a journal to keep people informed about the life of galgos and podencos in Spain and the Spanish islands. There is a lot of work goes on behind the scenes with trying to link dogs and people and associations, and donations of goods to refuges.
And of course this Sunday, 12th September, is my Fete des Galgos in France, with a craft fair, exhibition of classic motor bikes and cars, and Have a Go Archery…..very exciting. All profits for the galgos and podencos.

You will have a ball. Good luck, will be rooting for you!
My little girl and her friend have organised by themselves a 2nd hand sale in the village tomorrow. The last few days has seen them knocking on doors and collecting goods and tomorrow is the grand final where it will all be sold. They are so excited.
Ruso booked in for Monday, will keep yu posted. Thanks again Charl, Beryl and Suzie for all your support… x

Bonjour
What a marvellous idea for your little girl,
hopefully she and her friend will raise lots more money for Ruso to be healed,
and also give show Spanish children how they should be treating their animals,
especially the galgos.
Good luck to them both.

On March 22, 2011 we adopted Ruso(now ANDY). He is doing just fine. Wanted you to know. We have had 6 Greyhounds/ Galgos. Another Galgo we adopted in 2009 is ABBY. We now have only 3. Three died of cancer. Horrible!!! The three we have now Alloway, 9; Abby 9; and our Andy who is about 6. Andy had an operation to get rid of the bulge. Went just fine. He has a very slight limp. We LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for writing to us. It would be wonderful if you could email some pix of him, to band@bbrennan.eu to post here. He was one of Tina’s rescues, no one at the refuge even told her he was there! He lay like that for a few days before she found him. It is wonderful to know where he is. In fact, even better, could you write his rehoming story – how you found out about him, chose him, how he travelled to you, his character. Oh, it’s so lovely to hear where he is! Bless you for giving him a new life.
