  • 6 months old galga – what did the bastard hunter do to her?!!

    Scooby Princesa 400 2 2020
    From Protectora Scooby.

‘WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU PRINCESA?!

We do not know what happened to Princesa, we cannot assure that the wound that crosses her face is from a shot, but what we can assure is that she has a hole with a trajectory that begins above the eye and ends in the lower jaw . Our little girl, only six months old , has had to suffer a lot of pain these days since in addition to the wound, the infection she had in the affected area was tremendous.

Princesa has lost her eye, too little thing if we consider that what she could have lost was her life .
    Courage Princesa!

  • Desperate situation for the Galgos of Spain

    Day of the Galgo 400 1 2 2020

February 1st was Day of the Galgo. And rather than show you the awful photos of Galgos, and how they have died through torture and neglect, I’d rather concentrate on the present situation that effects me daily, along with other rescues, both large and small, and individuals trying to help.

Day of the Galgo is no different from any other day, but I’m so terribly sad because I received a message tonight about a Galgo living on the streets in the next village to me. It was from a young lady, and she wrote ” I am trying to help it, but nobody helps me” This is in Sierra de Yegas, close to Campillos, in deep hunting grounds. I sat there and cried because I am so full and, cannot take on another until some go. I’ve got to the point yet again!!! where I’m frightened to open messages in case there is another about a Galgo in need that I can’t open my door to.

There are so many of them and it’s a constant battle to make room to take another in. And also to be able to support them financially to prepare them for adoption. Tomorrow there is a nationwide demonstration in many regions of Spain to promote the banning of hunting with Galgos. If you see any of these posts please share and spread the word about their plight. Change is happening, but like most other things, it takes time. There’s one thing above all else that I’d like to see and, it is that the Galgos and other hunting breeds get the same rights that pets have.

Galgos are my world, they are so forgiving of our human failures, and they make wonderful pets. Please consider adopting one, if you can’t then maybe you could foster one short term, or donate towards their care.

I have a teaming group if you could donate just one euro per month, https://www.teaming.net/ann-scaninecare
Or just share, you may reach somebody that can help

Alternatively if you prefer to use PayPal this is the address ann.spain@gmail.com

Thank you for your support, your shares and for simply being there for us

  • February 1st – Day of the Galgo

    Day of the Galgo 450
Your day is not just one, your day is all, 365 of the year.

But on February 1 our voices, representing the greyhounds, sound higher and clearer than ever to explain to everyone that, in the 1st century, is still used by most galgueros as a mere tool of Work, as a thing that when it ruins, does not fulfill its function, or it is no longer profitable, throw and buy a new.

The end that awaits a greyhound who stops being profitable for his owner is, in the best of cases, abandonment, since in many places in Spain are still hanged, they are killed or thrown alive To Wells.

Thousands of greyhounds are born every year to replace the thousands who are discarded until when?

  • Argentina – 2 galgos dumped in a well – starving and dehydrated!

    Galgos in well 1 1 2020 400
This news is from the association Unión Protección Animal Olavarría.

‘We went for them to look for them after a call from the police and there we found 2 Mobiles taking care of these poor animals that were discarded as trash in a cistern of about 3 MTS or more were covered with branches and the cistern with some badges To die discarded as a current currency, the police called the firefighters who went to take them out, there they were put in the shade and hydrated until we arrived in the organization with the girls of crao who offered veterinary care and food because they know we are overcrowded with dogs and debts.

The Police helped us move the galgos to vet of the silver where we were waiting. Diego who attended them first as always doing everything necessary to save these hungry galguitos and in total abandonment, one thing is to hear and another is to see it, fills us really with sadness, impotence and anger that a human being can do so much cruelty with a being so helpless.

  • Protectora Scooby saving more abandoned galgos

    Scooby Palencia 2 400 1 2010
More news from Cobie at Scooby.

    Two more are already safe!

These two pretty galgas have been part of the Palencia “landscape” for almost three months, we had already lost the hope of being able to rescue them , but finally, we have succeeded.

Both are young girls and although we have had to use a trap cage to be able to take them because they did not trust us, they are very good and they love to receive cuddles and caresses .

There are still many galgos that are waiting to be rescued, we continue trying to help them and give them the dignified life they deserve.

If you want to support the work we do, you can do it in the following ways:

  • The cruelty of the Spanish galguero…

    Pins galga 1 400 1 2010
Podencos in Need Scotland – PINS

Stunning girl India was found wandering with her mouth tied shut. Unfortunately as she had a chip she had to be returned to the hunter who gave her to another one who made her run tied to a motorbike.

She obviously didn’t make the grade (thankfully) so has ended up in shelter. She has had a terrible start to life but is currently in a Spanish foster home getting used to the fact that some humans are good.

  • SPANISH LANDSCAPE ——————– The outcasts of the Spanish countryside

    Cobie galgos 1 400 1 2020
From Cobie at Protectora Scooby Residencia Valladolid.

The discarded galgos become part of the landscape in certain places in Spain and during a specific time of the year.

It is sad to see how they roam the fields, roads, towns and cities looking for something to satisfy their hunger with and somewhere to shelter from the cold. Above all, it is devastating and frustrating to see how many of them end up dead, lying on the road or in a ditch, after being run over.

We don’t have the solution to end this problem that many don’t even want to see. We cannot change or make new laws; all we can do is try to rescue as many as possible and provide them with a safe place, food and veterinary assistance, and then look for families that give them the love they deserve and never had.
