  • Latest news from Greyhounds In Need – helping greyhounds and galgos

You will find the latest Greyhounds in Need newsletter on this link. Sit down in a comfy chair, make yourself a coffee or tea and then click on the right-hand box to open the PDF version. It is full of information about the various shelters in Spain and Italy which GIN support, plus taking some of the Macau greyhounds from China, and fundraising ideas.

Sadly there is one report of a galgo hung in a building near the centre of Badajoz in Extramadura. Badajaz has always been a hellhole for galgos. In this instance the galgo was chipped and the perpetrator of this vile act was traced and charged with animal cruelty.

  • SOS Galgos – fighting the corner against animal maltreatment

    SOS Galgos Ciro 400 16 4 2019
The story of Cyrus, while still tragic, ends well. Battered and abandoned by its owner in the trash, this greyhound was saved thanks to the intervention of the people who took pity on his deplorable state.

The owner was given a sentence in which he is condemned to three months in prison and a year of disqualification to owning a dog for the aggression. And although he will not enter the jail – he does not have a criminal record and it is a penalty of less than two years – both SOS Galgos and the lawyer of this NGO that exercised the private accusation, Sergio García-Valle, value this very positively. “There are few sentences of this kind because it is not easy to locate and demonstrate the facts. People should know that the bastard who mistreated Ciro has committed a crime and has been convicted, “says the lawyer in statements to Global Chronicle.

  • Scooby team to the rescue of the galgos again.

    Scooby 400 10 4 2019
From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid.

‘And this time we went to rescue dogs and cats to Murcia

61 more animals are already safe. In particular 36 galgos and 25 cats. Now they will have the opportunity to know what a real home and family is.

Remember that without your help it would be impossible for us to save the lives of so many animals. That’s why we need you, or rather, that’s why they (most vulnerable animals) need you. Together we can offer them a better life.
