  • Little Podenca found in Badajoz – needs medical treatment for eyesight

Podenca Andaluz Badajoz 03 2010 300 An appeal for someone to take this little podenca. She is a Podenca Andaluz, weighing 5 kgs – the same breed of podenca as my own Bebe, who weighs in at just 6 kgs. She was found in the hellhole of Badajoz, wherein is the worst perrera in Spain – Olivenza.

The girl who found her writes:

PODENQUITA: Abandoned in a village in the province of Badajoz, when I came upon her, I noticed something strange when she struck her head walking into walls or traffic signals, poor thing, I took her right away.

  • Heartless Spanish hunter – podenca abandoned near Albacete, starving to death

Albacete podenca 5 2010 250 This is yet another example of the despicable heartlessness of Spanish hunters; this podenca was abandoned about a month ago in a village 90 kms from Albacete. Some people are leaving her food, but she is obviously starving to death.

These are the contact details if anyone can help get her and take her in.

  • Cheap Spanish holidays in Aviles, room only, no food or maid service

Aviles, Asturias 8 190 This is the ‘shelter’ at Aviles, Asturia. Cuencanimal and Associacion Salvanimal-France have sent this report.

‘The deplorable situation of these dogs and cats shows the lack of sensitivity that has Pilar Varela, mayor of the Municipality of Avilés, for animals

When you get to where they are crowded, more than eighty dogs and cats are housed there, a strong smell hits you, anticipating the terrible images of the situation these animals are forced to exist in. A sign at the entrance warns that “No animals are picked up or delivered’. Dogs and cats barely survive in this hell of Avilés, sharing their space with tons of rubble and dirt, with rats, in cages consisting of pallets and mattresses.

  • 2 1/2 metres of water & mud – help Alberto near Cordoba, his refuge and his dogs

Andujar refuge alberto mud 03 2010 300 This is the latest news from Alberto at his refuge on the outskirts of Cordoba. The Guadalquivir river is in torrent, it has rained for 8 days again non-stop; the refuge is under 2 1/2 metres of water. He has 30 dogs in his refuge; the first ones he took out were the puppies and small dogs to another shelter 50 kilometres away. Then, when he went back for his other dogs, the water was up to his knees. He has saved the other dogs, but not the bedding, dog food etc. and has lost electricity power.

The biggest problem now is to get a lorry which will remove all the mud deposited around the shelter. He is desperate for monetary aid and manpower – even his mother has lent some money to help. He built this shelter on his own, and he is totally on his own in looking after the dogs and doing all the work.
