  • Galgo’s Rescue Almeria takes in another lost soul

    GRA galga 400 3 9 2020
From Galgo’s Rescue Almeria, Sandy tells the story.

‘Saving animals is a never ending story. We received a message if we could help this girl. At this moment we don’t know much about her past. Is she’s traumatised, does she have wounds/ injuries, what about her blood results…..? Wednesday she came to GRA the beginning of a new life / future for this girl.

Yesterday we went to the vet with Cheli, named after the girl who found her. She received a full examination and a bloodtest. Her blood results were negative for Filaria and Erlichia but unfortunately positive for Leish and Anaplasma. To start the right treatment a blood sample has been taken.

All help with vet bills is welcome.

  • Galgo Nico with Galgo’s Rescue Almeria – looking for a family

    From Galgo’s Rescue Almeria.

Our help was asked to find a new family for Paco. This gorgeous, big young boy was adopted when he was 3 months old. Due to circumstances the family could not longer take care of him so he ended up in a foster family. Paco is a young ( 1 year 3 months ) energetic boy who loves to play. He gets on very well with other dogs ( male / female). Paco grew up in a warm foster family and is already used to living as a family dog.

  • Galga Estrela from Portugal – sad news

    RIP Pawprints poem 400
Several years ago I worked with Teresa and Ines Canavarro with the rescue and rehoming of a family of galgos in Portugal who were forced to live in horrendous conditions. Estrela came to me in foster and went to the UK to a forever home. Duke also went into foster and was rehomed.

Alison, who adopted Estrela, wrote to me recently with the sad news that Estrela had finally crossed the rainbow bridge. Here’s what Alison said. ‘I am writing to you to let you know the sad news that our Portuguese Princess has left us.
I had to make the decision to have her pts. She seemed to have lost her will to live, she was elderly and did not suffer. She has had the life of royalty for the seven years she was here.’

Estrela recovered well from her terrible treatment at the hands of the galguero and his wife and would have been in her teens.
Thank you Alison for giving her such a wonderful life.

    RIP sweet galga.
