  • Luna, survivor of the Jaen killing station – happy in her new home

Luna 2 a Jaen galga 04 2010 250 Three galgas and a podenca, all in a cell on death row in the Jaen killing station at the end of 2009. All were rescued; this is Luna, who loves the daughter of her adoptants. The family says they play together and Luna is so sweet with the baby. Now she is healthy and step by step she’s more trustful. Now she has the life that she deserves.

Angie was another of the 3 galgas saved, is now well and desperately seeking a home like this, or even a foster home while she recovers her health and strength after veterinary care.

  • Blind galga Esperanza – view her pix – safely rehomed away from Spain

The blind galga Esperanza from Los Infiernos refuge which was adopted by Galgos 112 and rehomed, is already happy in her new environment, after just one day! Renamed Pucca, here is a gallery of photos.

  • Meet Miracle Moxie May – a podenca who survived Spain against the odds

Moxie May 2 Meryl Marsh 04 2010 250 Meryl Marsh is passionate about her podenca. Here is the moving story of Moxie May, another of the survivors of the canine hell of Spain.

‘I am from the U.S. and live most of the year in Belgium because my boyfriend works here. Last spring I started researching adoption agencies on the Internet and learned that there are several in Belgium that place dogs from Spain, this lead to me learning about what a sad, desperate situation many dogs face in Spain. Before that, I had no idea.

Every country has its issues with animal cruelty, but I was really shocked to learn how bad Spain is with the hunting practices and such.

  • Estrella, saved from the Jaen perrera, happy in a French home

Jaen perrera Estrella and 3 galgos 12 2009 250 Readers may remember Estrella, the podenca who shared a death cell at the Jaen perrera with 3 galgos. At 8 years old, she had been taken there by her owner, as he no longer had a use for her. The three galgos were rescued, but the podenca was left behind. She was obviously intended to leave as well, as she had a blood test showing she had ehrlichia, but somehow she got overlooked.

Two weeks later she was still there, discovered, and rescued. L’Europe des Levriers arranged for her to travel in the rescue at the beginning of February. Estrella came out in the van with me, and became my foster dog. She was skinny, not surprising as this is one of the symptoms of ehrlichia, and unfortunately she had not been put on medication for it.
