  • Spanish galgo Ruso, injured but saved from euthanasia, rehomed in USA

Ruso with forever family 22 03 2011 210 This is Ruso with his forever family in America. Ruso was discovered in Los Infiernos refuge in Murcia by Tina, a volunteer. Unbeknowst to her, he had lain for four or five days severely injured and in great pain, unable to stand, feed himself……..as soon as Tina discovered him, she took him out of the refuge, where the owners were intending to kill him, and through contact with Silvia in Valencia, he was transported to her centre for treatment by her vet and rehabilitation by Silvia. What a fantastic story, thanks to everyone involved, including Tina who prevented Los Infiernos from killing him, Silvia and her vet for his rehabilitation,to Greyt Friends, Inc., in Marietta GA who travelled to Spain to bring Ruso to the United States and fostered him until he was ready to move to his new home in Colorado and also GRIN. A happy ending for one deserving survivor of the annual massacre.

  • Ulises in his forever home

Ulises 1 March 2011 250 This is the latest photo of Ulises. Remember him? An abandoned galgo rescued from sickness and starvation by Tina of Galgos del Sol. Amongst his problems, including leishmania, he was suffering from an horrendous skin problem. He travelled to Silvia in Valencia, who has years of experience in caring for extremely sick and injured dogs. Poor boy, he had to have daily baths for several weeks, but gradually his head lifted and he got a wag in his tail.

  • Galgo rescuers brave snowstorms to save the innocents

Link to the story of L’Europe des Levriers’ rescue at the end of January, in a snowstorm. They brought out many galgos and a couple of podencos from the refuge at Herencia, run by Rosario, including two puppies found hiding under a makeshift shelter, whom Rosario named Draco and Kyra. Draco has been adopted by an artist. As always, some of the dogs have to be left behind, waiting for the next rescue. Enjoy the pix.

  • Venancio, galgo rescued in Spain, adopted in Norway – can you help him?

Venancio 1 250 Venancio is a galgo rescued in Spain, rehomed in Norway. Unfortunately he arrived with a problem which is going to be extremely costly to put right. Monette tells his story.

I´m writing you with an appeal on behalf of a newly adopted galgo from Spain and his loving family. Venancio arrived Norway december 2010, where a young couple have adopted him. Unfortunately, it appears now that the damage Venancio suffered just before his departure from Spain is so bad, that the vet in Norway has given the family only two choices, either to put Venancio to sleep or to have him operated, – an operation which there is no way the family can effort!

  • Galga Gaby finds her forever home

LALI Tina Solera 250 Among the galgos rescued in Murcia at the end of the winter 2010 hunting season was a brindle bitch, living rough in a series of pipes. Tina Solera set out to catch her, but that was easier said than done. Over two weeks went by, the galga evading capture until one day she was spotted sharing a pizza with a little girl.
