More of the 100 galgos rescued from Seville have arrived at the Scooby Medina refuge. Here’s what Cobie says.
‘Last week arrived the first 33 galgos from another 100 from Seville, the rest will come this week. I´ll send you pictures of them and also pictures from 2 galgos of this group who have burn marks on their thighs, This is something the gypsies do, like a kind of microchip but more painfull for the poor dogs. They do it with acid from batteries or with a hot iron like with horses or cows.
At the time we are working here with 6 or 7 people and many times there are volunteers as well like now there is a man from Holland and friday is coming another volunteer.
Today arrived Dr. Couto from America with some 12 vet students and they stay for a week so you can imagine that they castrate/sterilise a lot of dogs all together.
If you look on the Scooby website and look at the links you can see all the European associations who rehome galgos for us and since the arrival of the 130 galgos before, there are already reservated some 70 dogs which are leaving Scooby within 3 weeks.
Another thing is that the dogs are here in paddocks so we only have to pick up the pooh, give water and sweep the houses and that takes less time than cleaning kennels with water. And in the afternoon 2 persons give food to the dogs and that goes quickly too and by working this way we can help a lot of galgos and also the dogs are happier in paddocks than in kennels.’
What an incredible logistical fete. Hats off to everyone working so hard to save these dogs. But this highlights yet again the total irresponsibility of the hunting federations and racing federations for creating the insurmountable problem in the first place. We have to keep the pressure on to make a change.

Hi Angela
Cost to adopt and get to the UK is a difficult one
to answer. Greyhounds in Need have rescued galgos which go to the UK,
check out their website. Other associations which I mention on Galgo News
also have galgos rehomed in the UK. A couple from the Jerez perrera,
rescued last Christmas, are now with a couple in Wales; they were flown from
Malaga. Another couple which I fostered are in the UK, transport overland
with professional pet transport company running between the UK and Spain.
And I currently have a foster galga whose adoptants areworking out the
most cost effective way of getting her to the UK in January. The good news
is that, from lst January 2012, dogs being adopted from Europe to the UK will
only have to wait 21 days after their vaccinations including rabies, rather than
the 6 months at the current time. I suggest you contact GIN, pet transport
companies and then associations I mention on Galgo News, to give you an idea of
cost. Associations also charge an adoption fee, about 150 euros, to cover
the cost of preparing the Pet Passport for the dog, and including
sterilization. Let me know how you go on, email me direct on band@bbrennan.eu
