SOS Galgos have taken some of the galgos from the Jerez perrera in Cadiz, including the heavily pregnant bitch. Here’s what Anna Clements says.
‘Some photos of the galgos we got out of the Jerez shelter today (Monday). The two brindle ones together should be arriving on Wednesday and will be at the event. We plan to get some more out during the course of the week. More were taken into the perrera today, brought in by hunters.’
Sickening news, disposable dogs…………well, I suppose the only plus is that the hunters didn’t abandon the dogs to live rough and risk being injured.
I shall get to meet some of them, as I am flying to Barcelona for Les Noches des Galgos, the SOS Galgos fundraising Expo and Concert on Saturday, 4th December.

When the dogs are dumped at these killing stations, in what manner are they killed? Does anyone know definitively? Is it an injection like they do here which is ‘painless’ or do they gas them for god’s sake or shoot them?
Bon Soir
According to my information, they use the cheapest solution, which is an injection which causes paralysis and takes about 20 minutes to kill – 35 euros per dog was the last amount I was told. Gas is not supposed to be used, but I am reliably informed some perreras do use this method. The problem also is that people cannot get into the perreras to check what is being done.
Sickening. In the UK, a vet HAS to be present when there is mass slaughter – Im talking about abbatoirs for domestic livestock – dogs and cats are not usually pts in large numbers, as they are in Spain.
Barbarism in Spain continues to be alive and kicking – even in some of the killing stations!
Thanks as always for your caring.
