Sometimes the sheer stupidity of some people is unbelievable. You don’t have to be a hunter to be cruel, as this story shows. This galgo was rescued over Xmas by a woman who lives in a 3rd floor apartment in Benalmadena. Last week she went out and left a window ajar. The galgo pushed open the window, got onto the balcony and jumped!
The galgo has been operated on by a hospital in Benalmadena, he has staples inside the leg and stitches outside. He has a hole left for drainage of liquid. He fell to the ground. The neighbour saw the dog, called the girl and he was eventually taken to the vet. The diagnosis is
2 rodillas broken.. (knees) The patela is in fragments. A complicated operation and breakage but the prognosis should be that he will walk again and live a life quietly. He has also been fitted with a drainage channel. He is being treated with analgesics for pain and antibiotics.
He has only a cover on the kitchen floor to lie on. He has to be carried outside to wee – down 3 floors to the ground floor – imagine trying to carry him! Poor dog!
He needs rest for about one and a half months, in a box or protected, and just lifted out to wee and poop. He will need xrays every 3 weeks
He will need special care, rubbing his legs for circulation, moving them slightly, his paws etc because he is just lying down as he can’t stand, and groomed so he feels better about himself.
Poor defenceless galgo.
And all because of the bloody stupid woman! Who already has two dogs, so it’s not like she doesn’t know anything about dogs.
Please can anyone take this dear deserving galgo and help him recover? Contact Charl if you can help. She can’t take him herself and is desperately trying to get him away and to someone who will care for him.
UPDATE 20 01 2011 The woman who took Liberty from the perrera and then left her kitchen window open and went out, resulting in him panicking at being left alone so soon after arriving in the flat and jumping out 3 storeys up, breaking both back legs; well, this weekend she ordered the vet to euthanaise him. It wasn’t necessary, they knew there was a foster home waiting for him, and people willing to help him on the road to recovery. But it was easier for her to have him put to sleep, saved her having to do anything more for him. Hope she breaks both her legs!
