Life is cheap on the streets of Cuenca – galga Emy needs help

Emy Cuenca head 04 2011 190 What a beautiful face. Another gorgeous galga abandoned and injured on the streets of Cuenca. Here is her story.

‘Emy was brought to us this morning from Cuenca. Emilio picked her up last night, completely terrified with a large wound in her leg. She had been wandering for several days tghrough the town but no one had stopped to help, not uncommon in this country of savages.

Emy Cuenca 1 03 2011 200 Emy has a completely shattered leg, maggots (fly larvae) have eaten part of it and there are only the phalanges of the fingers. We can’t imagine the pain she has gone through, the vet has taken out a hundred worms, as well as ticks. It is possible that the leg will have to be amputated because there is no possibility of reconstruction.

At the moment she is stable and eating heartily, she can walk a little, and she looks at you with those hazel eyes as if to say thank you. One good thing is that she has tested negative in leishmania, erlichia.

Emy Cuenca 2 04 2011 200 Now we have many cases like those of Emy, we have a cross labrador Romina which has become disabled in its hind legs after distemper, and whose rehabilitation will be costly; also today we picked up a cross Breton spaniel with a broken front leg very old, abandoned and for more than a month living in the door of a shop where the owners fed him. We do not know what will happen to his leg; we have a kitten a month old with a defect in one of his legs.

ACUNR welcomes and assists all the animals that we can and we refuse to sacrifice any but now we are having great financial difficulties. If you want to help by accepting, adopting, sponsoring or becoming a member or simply giving us a donation, please contact us.

Yes, its what everyone wonders, how can people walk by; you can see what the volunteer thinks of her compatriots who did just that!

a couple of years ago I was trying to catch a starving pointer girl
she was heavly pregent was following her along a side road and has almost got her when car came along i waved him to slow down
did he did he hell he drove staight at her
He only missed her by inches scared her off
may he rot in hell I did get her the next day by this time she was so tired and so hungery she just gave up and came to me
The happy note to this is she now lives in the U.K. with a lovely couple has a SBT as her best friend
I named her Hope as to me she stood for so many sad abandoned dogs here in spain

    Bonjour
I dont know how you all live with this enormous
problem of abandonment of dogs in Spain – everywhere you walk you must see
abandoned, injured and starving dogs. Its enough for me to drive down to
the refuges, collect the dogs we are bringing back to France for rehoming, and
    drive back out of Spain!
Lovely story about the dog you saved, just one of
many. Thanks for being one of Tinas team.
