A report on the ACTIN website about the work Spanish police are doing in Murcia, after having attended one of the DeAnimals courses on Animal Welfare. Would that this could extend across the whole of Spain.

Hairy Cuban looking for a family
I’ve always loved the long-haired galgos we’ve brought out of Spain on rescues, they are not very common. Here’s a lovely boy waiting and waiting for a forever home.
‘Cuban is a young Galgo. 2 years since we brought him off a hunter because he didn’t want to hunt. He’s unusual because he has long hair and people are not used to seeing this type of galgo… is that why no one has adopted him? He’s a dog without any kind of fear, sociable, compatible with dogs and cats and walks great on a leash. He will come with chip, vaccinated and neutered.

La Bienvenida, Ciudad Real – Stunning Galgo Hairo seeks forever home
My very first galga Karmel was from La Bienvenida refuge in Ciudad Real, 200km south of Madrid. I travelled down with the team of L’Europe des Levriers to collect her, along with a dozen more. I wrote about the trip for the Weekly Telegraph and that was also the birth of Galgo News.
This stunning boy is at La Bienvenida now. He’s Hairo, he was skeletal when rescued but is now looking much better. Here is his story.
Hairo arrivedon 30th Junhe at the shelter, it’s another waste more of the hunt among many so many. What can we say about him or his state that you can’t see in the video?
Needless to say, he’s too thin, you can see the spine and all the ribs, he looks like a sack of bones. He was full of ticks and very dirty, has some wounds but they are not serious. He soon had a nice bath and stayed on good and clean. The poor boy very much appreciated the attention and filled us with kisses. In spite of his state, is a young galgo, very affectionate and happy. He just wanted to eat and lots of cuddling. -
Seville – cheap accommodation available in the campo
Rosario de la Guia tells the story of this rescue – an all too common one about an abandoned galga who gives birth to pups.
Look at what we did to rescue this galga and her pups. In the field in a few bushes hidden. For 3 days carrying food and water 3 times a day. We caught them as we couldn’t leave them to die of a heat stroke. We found an urgent foster placing but we need to welcome them also for adoptions for when they stop suckling. They are in Seville. There is an adoption contract and follow up.

Once revered by Royalty, thrown away like garbage – the stunning White Galgo
They are Romeo and Juliet, obviously male and female very young. They were found by a wandering disoriented by the highway Jerez (Cadiz) Spain. Loads of traffic, very dangerous for them.
Between Manuel and Macarena with the help of other cars that were stopped they managed to rescue them.
We believe that they are brothe and sisters, they support the one on the other.
We would like to home the two together, for obvious reasons. They are very good and quiet. They are at the clinic, but they won’t be able to stay much longer. so a foster home is urgently needed, or even better, a forever home. Adopt a galgo, you will regret it.
Contacts. Macarena Castellano or Lola Bustillo (but only on their facebook pages as I can’t get an email or phone no for them)

Javea – Xabia Town Hall and APASA – plans for new kennels
Would that all municipal councils would do this.
In Javea – Xàbia Town Hall and Apasa cooperate on the design and management of the new municipal dog kennels.
The future facility will not decrease the capacity for the number of dogs nor will any dogs be put down.
Xàbia Town Hall and the animal protection organisation Apasa have reached an agreement to jointly design the future municipal dog pound to be installed in the Ramblars area, away from local housing, providing the best sanitary conditions and services. Both the mayor, José Chulvi, and the president of Apasa, Mandy Conway, have positively praised this new period of cooperation. -
A baby, abandoned alone in a Spanish flat – safe now with Scooby
From Cobie at Scooby Protectora.
They moved and took with them every worthless piece of shit with them, every chair, table, carpet, spoon, bowl, everything until the flat was completely empty.
But the most valuable thing they left behind in that empty hole: this little galga puppy only 10 weeks old who actually should still be with her mother. But they left her all alone without water, without food, no soft blanket to sleep on, just nothing.
Of course she was afraid and felt alone so she started to panic and cried and screamed for days and hoped that somebody heard her and would come back for her to keep her company. Well, finally, after some days, the neighbours called the police, they came and broke the door open and found her, totally stressed and brought her to the perrera municipal in Valladolid where Scooby took her out.

Galga Esperanza – 5 years on and enjoying life
Do you remember the story of Esperanza, left for dead badly injured in a rubbish skip and rescued by Galgos 112. 5 years on, here are a couple of videos of her enjoying a walk in the woods and playing with her canine friends.
