The volunteers involved in galgo and podenco rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work with dedication and commitment towards the ultimate solution for these maltreated and abused dogs. But sometimes circumstances change, which means the dog has to move on. Everyone hopes he/she will not be affected by this, and it is amazing how resilient the dogs are.
Here is one boy who, through no fault of his own, now has to leave his foster home and return to Los Infiernos refuge, home to over 200 dogs. Tina Solera is desperately seeking another foster or forever home for him, so he doesn’t have to cope with the refuge again. If you can help, please get in touch with Tina.
‘This is Gandalf. Gandalf is a galgo standing tall at 68cm. He is 3yrs old and has made much progress throughout the past year. In the refuge for months on end no-one could touch him because he was so frightened and a decision was being made if it was kinder to put him to sleep as he was suffering so much.
Before such a decision was made his saviour came along and has worked with him for the last year where she has seen him make wonderful progress in her own home. He has confidence now with people, children and is even good with cats.
Her time with him must come to an end due to personal circumstances so he will have to return at the end of this month or be put to sleep as the refuge may not accept him back (altho we would fight for that). We are now working non-stop to find him a home even a foster home where he can continue his progress.’

if he could come over to the uk i would have him. i have 3 greyhounds who are very laid back im sure it would help him get more confidence.
Many thanks for that Kim however we need a 7 month window to prepare to send him over plus its quite expensive for the transport, we don’t have that sort of funds to cover it. Thank you for thinking of Gandalf x

Hi kim
So kind of you to offer. The problem is
preparing his Pet Passport for the UK. He will have an EU passport but,
for entry to the UK, this requires a blood test exactly 30 days from his rabies
vaccination, to test positive for the rabies antibodies in his body, and then 6
months from that he will be clear for entry to the UK. It is a case of
finding someone who will keep him for those 7 months. I am currently
fostering a galga who is undergoing just such a process, she should be ready for
entry to the UK at the end of January. We are all counting the days!
All just so frustrating!
I have the room at my home to have kennels and runs
constructed where I could take galgos and podencos in just such a
situation. However, we have to remember the deserving greyhounds in the
UK, such as you have so wonderfully adopted………they too need their forever
homes.
Thanks so smuch for caring so much, and bless your
greyhounds for having such a wonderful mama.

Bonjour
Ive asked Tina to contact you direct. How
brave of you to work in Tangier with the dogs there, I have the utmost
admiration for you.Are the dogs in a refuge? Cant begin to imagine
the conditions for animals in the African countries.
Thanks for commenting, caring and reading Galgo
